Verhot vanhoista farkkupaidoista - Curtains made of old jeans shirts

Farkkuihin, farkkukankaaseen ja kierrätykseen pakkomielteisenä en mitenkään voinut jättää kokeilematta verhoja farkkukankaasta. Näihin käytin vanhoja, kierrätyskeskukseen kelpaamattomia farkkupaitoja (kiitos, Nextiilin väki!), vuorikankaina käytöstä poistettu pussilakana ja tilkkutöistä jääneitä isompia jämäpaloja. Malli ihan omasta päästä. Tykkään lopputuloksesta.

Kuvat on otettu kännykkäkameralla, ei ehkä parhaat mahdolliset mutta kaipa niistä idean näkee. Pitkä verho on n. 70 x 235 cm, kappa n. 40 x 490 cm.

Obsessed in jeans, jeans fabrics and recycle, I could not resist making curtains out of jeans. Here I used old jeans shirts which recycle center did not accept for sale (thank you Nextiili!), lining is made of old sheet and larger leftover pieces of previous quilt works. I designed this all by myself. I love these!

Pictures have been taken with mobile phone's camera, not the best possible ones, but I believe the idea can be found. Long curtain is about 70 x 235 cm, the narrow one is about 40 x 490 cm.

Läppärilaukkuja - Bags for laptops

Marraskuun käsityömessuja varten olen ommellut farkkutilkkulaukkuja pääasiassa eri kokoisille mobiililaitteille, mutta tulee sinne myyntiin "tavallisia" käsilaukkujakin. Mobiililaitteiden laukut ovat lähes kaikki litteitä suorakaiteita, käsilaukuissa on enemmänkin muotoilua. Kaikkia mobiililaitteille tarkoitettuja laukkuja löytyy kahdeksaa eri väriyhdistelmää, käsilaukkuja on yksi malli/väri.

Kun aloitin laukkujen ompelun, minulla oli farkkusuikaleita kaikkiaan 387 metriä. Läppärilaukkuun tarvittiin n. 12 m/laukku, laskekaapa siitä kuinka monta läppärilaukkua tuosta määrästä olisi tullut!

For the craft fair in November I have made bags for different sizes of mobile devices. In addition to these there will be also usual handbags, too. Bags for mobile devices are mainly flat squares, handbags have more design. All bags for mobile devices can be found in eight different color combinations, handbags have one color/model.

When I started sewing these bags, I had stripes of jeans all together 387 meters. One laptop bag needed about 12 m/bag, quite a lot of laptop bags could have been done of that amount!

Läppärilaukuissa on pehmustus (akryylihuopaa), sisällä 3-4 pikkutaskua ja yksi iso, johon mahtuu tablettitietokone (melkein kaikissa laukuissa). Laukkujen koko vaihtelee hieman, leveys 37-45 cm, korkeus 32-35 cm. Melkein kaikkia laukkuja voi kantaa myös olkapäällä. Yhden suikaleen leveys ommeltuna n. 2 cm.
Laptop bags are upholstered with felted acrylic, they have 3-4 little and one big pocket inside. Into the big pocket you can put a tablet computer (almost every laptop bag). The size of these bags varies, width 37-45 cm, height 32-35 cm. Almost every bag can be carried also on shoulder. The width of ole strip is about 2 cm after sewing.

Kaikissa läppärilaukuissa pohjan voi muotoilla leveämmäksi. Tämä kuva ei tosin ole paras mahdollinen...

Tytär sinisessä kesämekossaan - My daughter with her new blue dress for summer

Nuorempi tytär halusi uuden kesämekon, ja sehän tehtiin. Puuvillajerseytä, somisteena vuosia sitten ostettua ohutta puuvillasekoite-printtikangasta. Ihan Suuri Käsityö 10/2015 -lehden kaavojen mukaan leikattiin, mutta lisäsin nuo somisteet ja muutin poimutukset laskoksiksi. 

My younger daughter wanted a new dress for summer. Cotton jersey with a little details made of thin printed cotton. I cut the pieces exactly according to the Finnish craft magazine Suuri Käsityö 10/2015, but I added those printed cotton pieces and changed the folds into tucks.

Ja tällainen siitä tuli. Melkein kuin eri mekko, eikö? Tytär tykkää kovasti mekostaan, haluaisi pitää sitä joka päivä, mutta epäilee että se on liian hieno jokapäiväiseksi mekoksi.
And this is what we got. Almost a different dress, isn't it? Daughter loves her new dress, se would like to keep it every day, but se wonders if it is too fine to keep every day.

Tein mekolle kaveriksi pari erilaista huivia.
I made also two different kind of scarfs.

Täytyyhän mekon kanssa olla yhteensopiva laukkukin, tämän koko n. 18 x 20 cm.
The dress has to have a matching bag, too. The size of this one is 18 x 20 cm.

Farkkutilkkulaukku - A patchwork bag made of old jeans

Tällä hetkellä meneillään on aivan valtava tilkkutyörumba, teen erilaisia laukkuja farkkutilkuista. Kun säästää kaikki farkut viimeisten 30 vuoden ajalta, tulee joskus säilytystilan rajat vastaan ja farkuista on ihan pakko tehdä jotain, minä päädyin laukkuihin. Tavoitteena on mennä niitä myymään Tampereen käsityömessuille tämän vuoden marraskuussa, kunpa vain saisin myyntipaikan. Jos myyntipaikan saan, tarjolla on mm. useita erilaisia mobiililaitteille soveltuvia laukkuja, kaikkia 8 eri väriä.

Olen samalla tekniikalla tehnyt tilkkutöitä aikaisemminkin, ennen tätä rumbaa tein pari vuotta sitten laukun äidille lahjaksi (sitä ennen lähinnä istuintyynyjä farkkutilkkutyönä). Teen nämä farkkutilkkutyöt suikaleista, jotka leikkaan 4 cm leveiksi, ommeltu leveys on siten 2 cm kun käytän 1 cm saumanvaroja.

Kuvassa oleva laukku on se äidille tekemäni lahjalaukku, se herätti suurta huomiota missä tahansa äiti laukun kanssa liikkuikin. 

From the beginning of this year I have been sewing patchwork bags made of old jeans. I hava saved all our jeans for at least 30 years, and now (and earlier, too) I decided to make unique jeans bags. I have planned to sell my bags in Tampere Craft Fair on November this year, if only I get a sales place. If I get the sales place, there can, among the other things, be found several different kind of bags for mobile phones and computers, every model in 8 different colors.

I have made also earlier patchworks with this technique, for example a bag for my mother as a gift a couple of years ago (before that I made mainly seat cushions as jeans patchwork). My jeans patches are 4 cm wide stripes, I use 1 cm seams, so the ready made patch is 2 cm wide.

In this picture you can see the bag I made for my mother, everybody noticed it where ever my mother was around.

Tilkkupäiväpeittoja, tehty kauan sitten - Patchwork counterpanes made a long time ago

Ensimmäinen tilkkutyöni, jossa ensin ompelin suikaleet levyksi, leikkasin levyn suikaleiksi ja ompelin uuteen järjestykseen (toki olin ennen tätä tehnyt paljon muita tilkkutöitä, tässä käytin ensimmäistä kertaa tätä tekniikkaa). Koko n. 125 x 220 cm, yksittäisen tilkun koko n. 3,5 x 3,5 cm.
My first patchwork which I made by sewing stripes together, cutting into stripes again and then sewing into a new order (I had made many other patchworks before this one, here I used this technique for the first time). Size about 125 x 220 cm, one square about 3,5 x 3,5 cm.

Nuoremman tyttären peitto. Tässä ompelin ensin suikaleet pitkiksi (n. 15 m) nauhoiksi, tein niistä kahden värisiä suikaleblokkeja, leikkasin suorakulmaisia kolmioita joista sitten kasasin peitteen. Koko 160 x 200 cm.
A counterpane for my younger daughter. Here first I sewed stripes into longer (about 15 m) stripes, of which I made blocks of two different color combinations, cut into triangles which I sew into a counterpane. Size 160 x 200 cm.

Tämän samaisen peiton tyttären koira tuhosi. Kahdesti. Kuvat ovat ensimmäisen kerran jäljiltä, toisen tuhoamiskerran jälkeen peittoa ei enää saa korjattua. Valitettavasti ei kuvia tuosta toisesta tuhokerrasta.

Joululahjoiksi tehtyjä tilkkutöitä - osa 2 / Patchworks for Christmas presents - vol. 2

Kolmioita ja 5-kulmioita - Triangles and pentagons

Edellisen päivityksen 6-kulmioita jäi yli, joten tein niistä kolmioita ja ompelin äidille tilkkupöytäliinan. Normikokoinen tulitikku kertoo mittakaavan. Liinan koko on 50 x 77 cm.

I had some hexagons left after making the large counterpane mentioned in my previous update, so I made a patchwork tablecloth for my mother. Normal size of a matc tells you the scale, the size of the tablecloth is 50 x 77 cm.

Liinan vasemmassa päässä luonnonvalo, oikeassa sähkövalo joka "hieman" muuttaa värisävyjä.

Left side of the cloth is in natural light, right side in electric light which changes colours "a little bit".

Reunasuikaleet kapeimmillaan n. 1 cm.
The stripes are minimum 1 cm wide.

Seuraava työ ei nyt ihan varsinaisesti joululahja ollut, mutta kun se valmistui sopivasti jouluksi, niin menköön nyt tähän samaan kategoriaan.

Tyttären bostonin terrieri on mestari tuhoamaan lelujaan. Päätin kokeilla löytyisikö minulta jotain bostonin terrierin kestävää kangasta ja luulin enstexin olevan sellaista. Ei ollut, kankaassa on reikiä, mutta saumat kestävät varmaan kovemmankin käsittelyn, ompelin ne kolminkertaisella suoralla ompeleella (lukkotikki?). 5-kulmion yhden sivun pituus on 5-6 cm, en nyt muista ihan tarkalleen. 

The next one is not actually a Christmas present, but because I got it finished just before Christmas, so let it be in this same category, Christmas presents.

My daughter's Boston terrier is a master in destroying its toys. I decided to try to make sometthing Boston terrier proof, but did not quite manage to do so. The fabric has now some small holes, but the seams will probably never break, because I sew them with a triple stitch. The size of one pentagon is about 5 - 6 cm, I do not remember exactly.

Koiruus oli innoissaan, vihdoinkin pallo jota voi ravistella! Pallo tai pääjalkainen, vaikea se kuitenkin oli ommella, häntäkin meni väärään saumaan, mutta eipä se koiruus siitä varmaan välitä. Pääasia että ravistelu-ulokkeita on riittävästi.

The doggy was in heaven, finally a ball which can be shaked! A ball or a cephalopod, anyway, it was quite difficult to sew. Its tail is in wrong seam, but the doggy probably does not care about it. The main thing with this is that this has enough limbs to catch and shake.

Joululahjoiksi tehtyjä tilkkutöitä - osa 1 / Patchworks for Christmas presents - vol. 1

Neliöitä ja 6-kulmioita ompelukoneella - Squares and hexagons with sewing machine

Kuopukselle piti tehdä uusi päiväpeitto kun koiruus tuhosi edellisen (siitä myöhemmin). Uutta koko sängyn peittävää peittoa tytär ei halunnut, mutta sain puhuttua sellaisen jalkopäässä pidettävän poikkipeiton, jonka lisäksi tein vielä aluspeiton jolla peitetään koko patja, myös reunat. Aluspeiton reunat tungetaan patjan alle, poikkipeitto roikkuu reunojen yli. Työssä on 1029 kpl 5 x 5 cm yksittäin ommeltua tilkkua, koko peiton koko n. 100 x 230 cm.

My youngest needed a new counterpane to replace the one her dog destroyed (more about that later). She did not want one to cover the whole bed, but I sewed her 100 x 230 cm sized one with 1029 squares sized 5 x 5 cm each. I made also one which covers the whole madrass and is kept under this one.

Nuorena tyttönä halusin tehdä jonkinlaisen tilkkutyön. Äiti opetti ompelemaan (käsin) 6-kulmioita pahvimuotin avulla. Eihän siitä koskaan mitään valmista tullut, enkä ole edes yrittänyt sen jälkeen tehdä 6-kulmioista ompelemalla mitään koska koin sen liian vaikeaksi. Kun esikoinen sitten esitti toiveen uudesta, 6-kulmioista tehdystä auringonlaskun värisestä päiväpeitosta, ilmoitin välittömästi että ei onnistu. Asiaa kuitenkin riittävästi mietittyäni totesin että voin kuin voinkin tehdä peiton ompelukoneella, ja suostuin. Peiton koko on n. 220 x 270, tilkkuja vissiin yli 500 (tilkun koko reunasta reunaan 12,5 cm) ja värejä yli 20. Peitto on niin suuri, ettei se mahdu kerralla kuvaan.

When I was young (a long, long time ago), I wanted to make some patchwork. My mother teached me to sew hexagons by hand with help of cardboard mold. I never finished the work, and have never even thought about sewing anything of hexagons because I thought it is too difficult. When my first-born told me she would like to have a sunset-colored counterpane made of hexagons, I said no. After a long consideration I noticed that I can sew hexagons with sewing machine, and i agreed to do as she wished. The size of this counterpane is about 220 x 270 cm, I believe more than 500 hexagons (the size of one hexagon is from side to side 12,5 cm) and over 20 colors. This is so big that I can not fit it in one picture.

Eiväthän nämä nyt tilkkuvirtuoosien tasolle yllä, mutta olen kyllä aika ylpeä näistä.
Probably these are not at the same level as the ones made of patchwork virtuoso, but I am quite proud of these.
