Älä koskaan hävitä yhtään mitään! - Save everything possible forever!

Tähänastisen elämäni aikana olen, joskus katkerastikin, havainnut että ikinä ei kannata hävittää yhtään mitään, vaan kaikki mahdollinen on säilytettävä hamaan ikuisuuteen asti. Ihan varmasti, vaikka säilytettävä tavara kuinka typerältä tuntuisikin. Niinkuin nyt esimerkiksi silputtujen farkkujen tupla- tai triplatikatut saumat. No joo, riittää että lahkeiden saumat säästää, muut voi olla liian paksuja tai lyhyitä.

Tällä kertaa tein 100 % kierrätysmateriaalista kaitaliinan, juurikin noista farkkusaumoista. Liinalla kokoa 30 x 140 cm ja sen tekemiseen tarvittiin saumat n. 25 farkuista. Liimasin saumanpätkät tekstiililiimalla taustakankaalle, hapsut on kaulaliinasta. Vain yhden ompelukoneen neulan tuhosin tätä tehdessä.

During my life so far I have, sometimes very bitterly, noticed that everything possible must be saved forever. Even if it feels very stupid to save stuff in question at the moment. For example if you have cut your jeans into pieces, do NOT throw away the seams which are double- or even triple stitched. Well, it is enough that you save the seams of jeans legs, other seams may be too short or bold.

This time I made a runner of 100 % recycled jeans seams. Size of this cloth is 30 x 140 cm and I needed seams of about 25 jeans to make this cloth. I used textile glue to fasten the seams on the background and the fringes are from a scarf. Only one sewing machine needle broke while making this.

Tämän tein viime vuonna Nextiilissä, kokoa en muista. Katkaisin 6-8 ompelukoneen neulaa tätä tehdessäni, koska kiinnitin farkkusaumat taustakankaaseen nuppineuloilla. Tämän liinan hapsut ovat matkahuovasta.
This I made last year in Nextiili, I do not remember it's size. I broke 6-8 sewing machine needles while making this, because I used pins to fasten the seams into the background. Fringes are from a plaid.

Solmioista tehtyjä - Made of neckties

Olisikohan solmio uusi farkku? No todennäköisesti ei ainakaan minun kohdallani, minulle farkkukangas on lähestulkoon pakkomielle, odottakaapa vain mitä kaikkea teenkään farkkukankaasta jatkossa! Mutta olen minä solmioistakin tehnyt tuotteita, tällä kertaa esittelen Nextiilissä tekmiäni solmiotuotteita.

Could neckties be new jeans fabrics? Probably not in my case, for me jeans fabrics is almost an obsession, you only wait and see what I'll make of jeans somewhere in future! Anyways, I HAVE made products of old neckties at work in Nextiili.

Pöytäliina. Koko jotain 50 x 100 cm tai jotain sinne päin. Ryppyinenhän tuo näyttää olevan, mutta ompelepa täysvinoa täysvinolle kankaalle, eihän siitä muuta voi tulla kuin ryppyistä, vai voiko?
A tablecloth. Size about 50 x 100 cm or something like that. It looks very wrinkled, but if you sew diagonal into diagonal fabric, you can not get anything else but wrinkled, can you?

Joululahjoiksi tehtyjä tilkkutöitä - osa 2 / Patchworks for Christmas presents - vol. 2

Kolmioita ja 5-kulmioita - Triangles and pentagons

Edellisen päivityksen 6-kulmioita jäi yli, joten tein niistä kolmioita ja ompelin äidille tilkkupöytäliinan. Normikokoinen tulitikku kertoo mittakaavan. Liinan koko on 50 x 77 cm.

I had some hexagons left after making the large counterpane mentioned in my previous update, so I made a patchwork tablecloth for my mother. Normal size of a matc tells you the scale, the size of the tablecloth is 50 x 77 cm.

Liinan vasemmassa päässä luonnonvalo, oikeassa sähkövalo joka "hieman" muuttaa värisävyjä.

Left side of the cloth is in natural light, right side in electric light which changes colours "a little bit".

Reunasuikaleet kapeimmillaan n. 1 cm.
The stripes are minimum 1 cm wide.

Seuraava työ ei nyt ihan varsinaisesti joululahja ollut, mutta kun se valmistui sopivasti jouluksi, niin menköön nyt tähän samaan kategoriaan.

Tyttären bostonin terrieri on mestari tuhoamaan lelujaan. Päätin kokeilla löytyisikö minulta jotain bostonin terrierin kestävää kangasta ja luulin enstexin olevan sellaista. Ei ollut, kankaassa on reikiä, mutta saumat kestävät varmaan kovemmankin käsittelyn, ompelin ne kolminkertaisella suoralla ompeleella (lukkotikki?). 5-kulmion yhden sivun pituus on 5-6 cm, en nyt muista ihan tarkalleen. 

The next one is not actually a Christmas present, but because I got it finished just before Christmas, so let it be in this same category, Christmas presents.

My daughter's Boston terrier is a master in destroying its toys. I decided to try to make sometthing Boston terrier proof, but did not quite manage to do so. The fabric has now some small holes, but the seams will probably never break, because I sew them with a triple stitch. The size of one pentagon is about 5 - 6 cm, I do not remember exactly.

Koiruus oli innoissaan, vihdoinkin pallo jota voi ravistella! Pallo tai pääjalkainen, vaikea se kuitenkin oli ommella, häntäkin meni väärään saumaan, mutta eipä se koiruus siitä varmaan välitä. Pääasia että ravistelu-ulokkeita on riittävästi.

The doggy was in heaven, finally a ball which can be shaked! A ball or a cephalopod, anyway, it was quite difficult to sew. Its tail is in wrong seam, but the doggy probably does not care about it. The main thing with this is that this has enough limbs to catch and shake.

Wanhoja juttuja - osa 3 / Old stuff - vol. 3

Aikaisemmin, vuosia tai vuosikausia sitten olin kova pitsin virkkaaja. Pääasiassa pöytäliinoja, mutta on toki muutakin tullut virkattua. Tässä muutama vanhempi juttu.

Earlier, years and years ago I was very keen on crocheting lace. Mainly table cloths, but also something else. Here you can find a couple of older things.

Kukkaliina, 65x65 cm. 6-säikeinen kalalanka. Tämä liina oli inspiraationani kun tein torkkupeitot "Kevätkukkia" ja "Punaiset kukat".
Table cloth with flowers, size 65x65 cm, 100 % cotton, very hard yarn, 6 fibres together. This cloth was my inspiration when I made blankets "Spring flowers" and "Red flowers".

Ohuesta 100 % pellavalangasta virkattu pöytäliina, koko 85 x 85 cm. Malli luultavasti Diana- tai Lea -virkkauslehdestä.
Table cloth crocheted of very thin 100 % linen yarn, size 85 x 85 cm. The model probably from Diana- or Lea -crochet magazine a long time ago.

Ainakin pari vuosikymmentä sitten näin eräässä ikkunassa ruutuvirkkauksella tehdyn verhon, jossa oli pöllö ja muutama irrallinen lehti. Totesin että pystyn itsekin sellaisen tekemään, monimutkaisemmankin vielä. Halusin verhon lasitetun parvekkeen ikkunaan, ja erinäisten mittausten ja laskutoimitusten jälkeen sain mallin piirrettyä millimetripaperille. Työ on virkattu ohuesta valkaisemattomasta pellavalangasta ja se on roikkunut parvekkeen ikkunassa 15-20 vuotta, suorassa auringonpaisteessa koko ajan, vaan ei enää. Verho vetelee nyt viimeisiään, se varistelee pölyä aina kun siihen koskee ja joka kerran reikiä on tullut lisää. Olen sitä yrittänyt paikkailla, mutta nyt se ei enää onnistu. Verhon koko näin vuosien roikuttamisen jälkeen 72 x 120 cm.

At least twenty years ago I saw a crocheted curtain with an owl and some loose leaves. I knew that I could make same kind of curtain myself, too, even a better one. I wanted to have a curtain into my glazed balcony window, and after several measuring and calculating I drew my model on millimeter paper. This work is made of very thin unbleached 100 % linen yarn (several yarns together) and it has been hanging in the balcony window about 15-20 years now, but not any more because it is "fading" away. It sprinkles dust every time when you touch it and new holes appear every now and then. I have tried to fix it but can not do it any more. The size of this curtain after all these years of hanging is 72 x 120 cm.

Kirjontatöitä - Embroidery works

Joskus kauan sitten oli aika jolloin olin äärettömän kiinnostunut kirjontatöistä. Ristipistotyöt olivat silloin suurin hitti, mutta on sitä tullut kirjailtua vähän muutakin.

Sometimes, a long time ago, I was very interested in embroidery works. Mainly cross stitch, but other kind of embroidery, too.

 Minä, joka en yleensä tykkää valmiiksi painetuista ristipistopohjista, sain anopilta tietenkin sellaisen lahjaksi, ilman lankoja. Muutin pohjassa olleet värit paremmin mieleisikseni. Kirjonta-alueen kokko 34 x 43 cm, myös tausta on täytetty.

I do not like ready printed cross stitch models, but I still got one from my mother in law. I changed the colours of the model more like my own ones. Size of the embroidery area is 34 x 43 cm, also the background is stitched.

 Tiikerin kuvan siirsin lehdestä millimetripaperille työn pohjaksi. Kuva-alue 24 x 27 cm, taustaa ei ole täytetty.

I moved the picture of this tiger from a magazine into millimeter paper to get cross stitch model. The picture area is 24 x 27 cm, background is not filled.

Näiden lintujen mallin, kankaan ja langat sain äidiltä palkkioksi toisen ristipistotyön teosta. Työn koko 44 x 33 cm, taustaa ei ole täytetty.

I got the model, fabric and yarns of these birds from my mother as a reward of making a cross stitcs work for her. Size of this work is 44 x 33 cm, background is not stitched.

 Tytär piirsi tuon kukan (sahalehti) suoraan kankaalle, minä täytin pohjan ilman mallia omasta päästäni. Työn koko 24 x 27 cm.

My daughter drew this flower (latin name stratiotes aloides, I do not know the name in English) straight to the fabric, I filled everything else from my head, did not draw anything. The size of this work is 24 x 27 cm.

 Tämä saniainen oli vanhassa käsityölehdessä, muutin värit. Anteeksi tuo paha heijastus lasissa. Työn koko 40 x 40 cm, vaihteeksi laakapistoja.

This fern was in an old magazine, I changed the colours. Sorry about the bad reflection. Size of this work is 40 x 40 cm, not cross stitching this time (I do not know what is the name of these stitches in English).

 Osa äidille tekemästäni ristipistotyöstä. Työn koko 19 x 26 cm, taustaa ei ole täytetty.

Kissamme pentuna. Siirsin kissan osuuden valokuvasta millimetripaperille. Työn koko 16 x 11 cm.

 Talitiainen käävän päällä. Alkuperäinen kuva oli hieman postimerkkiä suurempi, skannasin ja suurensin sen ja laitoin kuvan päälle ristikon. Lintu, kääpä ja alaosaan lehdet ovat suoraan mallin mukaan, puun runko osittain mallin mukaan ja tausta täysin omasta päästä. Työn koko 18 x 17 cm.

A great tit on a polypore. The original picture was a little bit larger than a stamp, I scanned and enlargened it and set a cross stitch lattice on it. The bird, polypore and the leaves are made as in the model, the trunk mainly as in the model and the background from my head. The size of this work is 18 c 17 cm.

 Pöytäliinakin on tullut kirjailtua. Pöytäliinan koko 150 x 150, keskikuvion halkaisija 78 cm. Keskikuvion lisäksi liinassa on 12 pientä kukkakuviota.

I have embroidered a tablecloth, too. The size of this cloth is 150 x 150 cm, the diameter of the figure in the middle is 78 cm. In addition to the figure in the middle there is 12 other little flowery figures in this table cloth.

Joulukuussa 2014 kävin Museokeskus Vapriikissa, jossa oli esillä myös nunavutien elämästä kertovia kirjontatöitä. Niiden innoittamana päätin että teen itsekin jotain samantapaista, noita kirjontalankojakin kun on päässyt kerääntymään luvattoman paljon kuten kuvasta näkyy. Tässä kuvassa on reilusti yli 400 yksikköä (kerää, aloittamatonta vyyhteä) kirjontalankoja. Kaksi kuukautta kesti ennen kuin keksin millaisen kuvan kirjailen, mutta nyt se on keksitty, piirretty kankaalle ja jo aloitettukin. Kuvan koko piirrettynä on 40 x 50 cm ja joka kohta täytetään. Tiedossa vähintään 48000 ketjupistoa.

In December 2014 I visited a museum, where was embroidery works of nunavut's life. There I decided that I shall make something similar myself, too. I have far too much embroidery yarns, as you can see from this picture. Here is over 400 units (balls or unstarted skeins) of embroidery yarns. It took two months to find out what kind of picture shall I embroider, but now I have found it out, drawn it on the fabric and even started embroider. The size of the picture (after drawing it) is 40 x 50 cm, and every part of it will be embroidered, at least 48000 stitches must be done.
