Joululahjoiksi tehtyjä tilkkutöitä - osa 1 / Patchworks for Christmas presents - vol. 1

Neliöitä ja 6-kulmioita ompelukoneella - Squares and hexagons with sewing machine

Kuopukselle piti tehdä uusi päiväpeitto kun koiruus tuhosi edellisen (siitä myöhemmin). Uutta koko sängyn peittävää peittoa tytär ei halunnut, mutta sain puhuttua sellaisen jalkopäässä pidettävän poikkipeiton, jonka lisäksi tein vielä aluspeiton jolla peitetään koko patja, myös reunat. Aluspeiton reunat tungetaan patjan alle, poikkipeitto roikkuu reunojen yli. Työssä on 1029 kpl 5 x 5 cm yksittäin ommeltua tilkkua, koko peiton koko n. 100 x 230 cm.

My youngest needed a new counterpane to replace the one her dog destroyed (more about that later). She did not want one to cover the whole bed, but I sewed her 100 x 230 cm sized one with 1029 squares sized 5 x 5 cm each. I made also one which covers the whole madrass and is kept under this one.

Nuorena tyttönä halusin tehdä jonkinlaisen tilkkutyön. Äiti opetti ompelemaan (käsin) 6-kulmioita pahvimuotin avulla. Eihän siitä koskaan mitään valmista tullut, enkä ole edes yrittänyt sen jälkeen tehdä 6-kulmioista ompelemalla mitään koska koin sen liian vaikeaksi. Kun esikoinen sitten esitti toiveen uudesta, 6-kulmioista tehdystä auringonlaskun värisestä päiväpeitosta, ilmoitin välittömästi että ei onnistu. Asiaa kuitenkin riittävästi mietittyäni totesin että voin kuin voinkin tehdä peiton ompelukoneella, ja suostuin. Peiton koko on n. 220 x 270, tilkkuja vissiin yli 500 (tilkun koko reunasta reunaan 12,5 cm) ja värejä yli 20. Peitto on niin suuri, ettei se mahdu kerralla kuvaan.

When I was young (a long, long time ago), I wanted to make some patchwork. My mother teached me to sew hexagons by hand with help of cardboard mold. I never finished the work, and have never even thought about sewing anything of hexagons because I thought it is too difficult. When my first-born told me she would like to have a sunset-colored counterpane made of hexagons, I said no. After a long consideration I noticed that I can sew hexagons with sewing machine, and i agreed to do as she wished. The size of this counterpane is about 220 x 270 cm, I believe more than 500 hexagons (the size of one hexagon is from side to side 12,5 cm) and over 20 colors. This is so big that I can not fit it in one picture.

Eiväthän nämä nyt tilkkuvirtuoosien tasolle yllä, mutta olen kyllä aika ylpeä näistä.
Probably these are not at the same level as the ones made of patchwork virtuoso, but I am quite proud of these.

Torkkupeitto "Usva" - Blanket "Mist"

Torkkupeittoni "Kolmioista kuusikulmioiksi" (blogiteksti 17.1.2015) ollessa palasten yhdistelyvaiheessa tarvitsin jotain muuta käsityötä jota voi tehdä televisiota katsellessa. Päätin siis aloittaa jotain helppoa ja lähes aivotonta työtä ja otin Pirkanmaan Kotityön Paksun Pirkkalangan ja virkkuukoukun nro 5 ja aloitin. Työssä oli aloitusvaiheessa 10 ketjusilmukkaa, ja koko työ on tehty kiinteillä silmukoilla yhtenä kappaleena, kuitenkin ruutu kerrallaan. Vaikea selittää, kuvat kertonevat enemmän. Valmis peitto on 140 x 190 cm ja tein sen alusta loppuun valmiiksi 18 päivässä! Peiton värit eivät ole ollenkaan minun värejäni (paitsi siniset), mutta tykkään lopputuloksesta. Olen tämän mallin itse kehitellyt (tai en ainakaan ole nähnyt kenenkään muun tällä tavoin virkkaavan) vuosia sitten, kun halusin testata onnistuuko neuloen tehty korinpohjakuvio virkkaamalla. Näkyy onnistuvan.

Jonkinlainen ohjekaaviokin saattaa joskus ilmestyä jonnekin päin blogia.

When I was connecting the units of my blanket "From Triangles into Hexagons" (text in this blog 17.1.2015), I needed something else to do while watching TV. So I decided to start something easy and not-to-concentrate -work and I took thick yarn and a hook number 5 and started. This blanket has been done in ONE piece, but still square by square. It is a little bit difficult to explain, I hope the pictures will tell everything better. The size of this blanket is 140 x 190 cm, and I made it in 18 days! The colors of this blanket are not at all my colors (except the blue ones), but i do like this a lot. I have created this method myself (or at least I have not seen anyone making this kind of crocheting before) years ago, when I decided to try could I make same kind of surface by crocheting as by knitting basket pattern.

Some kind of diagram may appear ssometimes omewhere in this blog.

Torkku- ja vauvanpeittoja - Blankets

Parin viime vuoden aikana on tullut vähennettyä massiivista lankavarastoani mm. torkku- ja vauvanpeittoja virkkaamalla. Enää ei ole lankavarastoa, nyt on peittovarasto, joka on muutamaa poikkeusta lukuun ottamatta myynnissä.

Lankoja on kerääntynyt ihan niin kuin muillakin; ostetaan enemmän lankaa kuin työ vaatisi eikä lopuille keksitä mitään järkevää käyttöä (onko se nyt sitten muka järkevää tehdä peitto toisensa perään varastoon?). Kirpputoreilta löytyi kerä tai pussi lankaa silloin tällöin, ja ostettavahan ne oli kun halvalla sai. Sisko-vainaani lankavarasto siirtyi minulle, monta säkillistä lankaa! Tässä vaiheessa lapset asettivat minun langanostokieltoon. Uhkasivat että jos ostan yhdenkin lankakerän ennen kuin varastoni on huvennut, he käskevät isänsä ottamaan minulta pankkikortin pois eikä käteistä saa antaa muuta kuin sen verran että päivän ruoat saa ostettua. Julmia lapsia minulla!

During a couple of last years I have managed to reduce my massive stock of yarns among other things by crocheting different kinds of blankets. I do not have a big stock of yarns any more, now I hava a stock of blankets and other soft things, which is for sale.

My stock of yarns has been growing the same way as others: by buying more yarn than the present work needs and then you do not find any reasonable way to use the leftovers (is it reasonable to make lots of blankets and just keep them in stock?). From the flea markets I found yarn every now and then. Yarns of my late sister was given to me, many sacks of yarn! And this was the moment my children told that I am not allowed to buy any more yarn. They threatened that if I do buy even a single ball of yarn, they'll tell their father to take my credit card away and if I need cash, he could give me just the amount I need to buy food for one day. Cruel children!
