Joulua odotellessa - Waiting for Christmas

Joulun odotuksen helpottamiseksi tein Nextiilissä kuusimetsän, siitä on sitten helppo oma joulupuu valita. Materiaalina erilaiset kankaat ja tapetti, taustana ilmoitustaulu, kokoa työllä on 40 x 60 cm. Kuuset tein origamityönä.

To make it easier to wait for Christmas, I made a wood of fir-trees at work in Nextiili. From there it is easy to choose which will bee your Christmas tree. To make this work I used different kind of fabrics and wallpaper, background is a message board. Size of this work is 40 x 60 cm. Fir-trees are made by origami technique.

Ostoksilla - Shopping

Olen tyttärelle luvannut tehdä hänelle vaatteita, joten kankaita tarvitaan. Osan kankaista tytär on löytänyt muualta, mutta jotain piti ostaa täältäkin. Kävimme tyttären kanssa Eurokankaan Tampereen keskustan myymälässä, mitä mahtavaa palvelua siellä saakaan ja kuinka ystävällisiä  myyjät ovatkaan! Vaikka tasan tarkkaan tietäisi mitä on hakemassa kangaskaupasta, kannattaa kuitenkin aina penkoa kaikki pöydät ja laatikot, koskaan kun ei tiedä mitä löytyy. Tälläkin reissulla tavoitteena oli puuvillatvilliä hameeseen (ei ollut Tampereella, joten jäi myöhemmin ja muualta hankittavaksi), viskoosia toiseen hameeseen ja jokin puserokangas. Viskoosi löydettiin ja puserokangaskin, vaikkakaan ei sitä mitä haettiin. Löytyi pakka 50 % villaa - 50 % pellavaa, 9,90 €/m, käsittämätöntä! Sitähän sitten mukaan tarttui vaikka ei sitä oltu haettukaan. Kunhan nyt vielä ehtisin ommella edes jotain ennen kesää. Kuvia tulee sitten kun on jotain valmista.

I have promised my daughter, that I'll sew her some clothes, so we need fabrics. We visited local Eurokangas-fabric shop, where you'll find the most frendliest sales persons. Even though you'll know exactly what you'll need, it is always worth of rummaging every table and box, you'll never know what you'll find. We found a pack of 50 % wool - 50 % linen fabric, only 9,90 €/m, also almost nothing! I wish I have enough time for sewing some clothes for her before summer. Pictures will appear when I get something ready.

Uusi säilytysjärjestelmä - New preservation system

"Äiti, oletko koskaan harkinnut jonkinlaisen säilytysjärjestelmän hankkimista työhuoneeseesi?" kysyi toinen tytär viimeksi kotona käydessään. Kyllä, kyllä äiti on ajatellut, ja iskäkin on monesti asiasta puhunut, mutta vasta nyt asia saatiin hoidettua. Työhuone on aika ajoin ollut kieltämättä aika kaoottinen, mutta niin kauan kuin pöydälle ja sängylle on saanut tavaraa mahtumaan ja jotenkin huoneessa kulkemaan, en ole kiinnittänyt asiaan sen enempää huomiota. Mutta rajansa kaikella, nyt uusi järjestelmä on hankittu, koottu ja täytetty, eikä huonetta enää tunnista entisekseen.

"Mom, have you ever considered of buying some kind of preservation system into your studio?" asked my younger daughter last time she visited home. Yes, mother HAS thought about it, and father has many times talked about it, but it took time to come true. Yes, my study HAS been quite a mess, but as long as I've been able to put stuff on my desk or quest bed and I've been somehow able to walk in the room, I have not considered anything until now. The new preservation system has now been bought, assembled and filled in, and I hardly recognize my studio.

 Aika sotku, eikö? Uusi järjestelmä on tuossa jo ostettuna ja kokoamista odottamassa.

Ei uskoisi samaksi huoneeksi. Ikean Kallax-hyllyjärjestelmä lisäkaappeineen ja -laatikoineen, mahtava keksintö! Aikaa kokoamisessa meni, mustelmia ja kipeitä lihaksia siitä seurasi, mutta NYT ON HIENO, ainakin minun mielestäni. Saa nyt sitten nähdä kauanko huone näyttää tältä...

You could not believe it is the same room as in previous picture, could you? Ikea Kallax-system with its cupboards and drawers, fabulous! It took quite a time, I got bruises and sore muscles, but NOW IT IS GREAT, at least I do think so. Let's see how long time it looks like this...

Kirjontatöitä - Embroidery works

Joskus kauan sitten oli aika jolloin olin äärettömän kiinnostunut kirjontatöistä. Ristipistotyöt olivat silloin suurin hitti, mutta on sitä tullut kirjailtua vähän muutakin.

Sometimes, a long time ago, I was very interested in embroidery works. Mainly cross stitch, but other kind of embroidery, too.

 Minä, joka en yleensä tykkää valmiiksi painetuista ristipistopohjista, sain anopilta tietenkin sellaisen lahjaksi, ilman lankoja. Muutin pohjassa olleet värit paremmin mieleisikseni. Kirjonta-alueen kokko 34 x 43 cm, myös tausta on täytetty.

I do not like ready printed cross stitch models, but I still got one from my mother in law. I changed the colours of the model more like my own ones. Size of the embroidery area is 34 x 43 cm, also the background is stitched.

 Tiikerin kuvan siirsin lehdestä millimetripaperille työn pohjaksi. Kuva-alue 24 x 27 cm, taustaa ei ole täytetty.

I moved the picture of this tiger from a magazine into millimeter paper to get cross stitch model. The picture area is 24 x 27 cm, background is not filled.

Näiden lintujen mallin, kankaan ja langat sain äidiltä palkkioksi toisen ristipistotyön teosta. Työn koko 44 x 33 cm, taustaa ei ole täytetty.

I got the model, fabric and yarns of these birds from my mother as a reward of making a cross stitcs work for her. Size of this work is 44 x 33 cm, background is not stitched.

 Tytär piirsi tuon kukan (sahalehti) suoraan kankaalle, minä täytin pohjan ilman mallia omasta päästäni. Työn koko 24 x 27 cm.

My daughter drew this flower (latin name stratiotes aloides, I do not know the name in English) straight to the fabric, I filled everything else from my head, did not draw anything. The size of this work is 24 x 27 cm.

 Tämä saniainen oli vanhassa käsityölehdessä, muutin värit. Anteeksi tuo paha heijastus lasissa. Työn koko 40 x 40 cm, vaihteeksi laakapistoja.

This fern was in an old magazine, I changed the colours. Sorry about the bad reflection. Size of this work is 40 x 40 cm, not cross stitching this time (I do not know what is the name of these stitches in English).

Kissamme pentuna. Siirsin kissan osuuden valokuvasta millimetripaperille. Työn koko 16 x 11 cm.

Our late cat as a kitten. I moved his picture from a photo into millimeter paper. The size of this work is 16 x 11 cm.

 Talitiainen käävän päällä. Alkuperäinen kuva oli hieman postimerkkiä suurempi, skannasin ja suurensin sen ja laitoin kuvan päälle ristikon. Lintu, kääpä ja alaosaan lehdet ovat suoraan mallin mukaan, puun runko osittain mallin mukaan ja tausta täysin omasta päästä. Työn koko 18 x 17 cm.

A great tit on a polypore. The original picture was a little bit larger than a stamp, I scanned and enlargened it and set a cross stitch lattice on it. The bird, polypore and the leaves are made as in the model, the trunk mainly as in the model and the background from my head. The size of this work is 18 c 17 cm.

 Pöytäliinakin on tullut kirjailtua. Pöytäliinan koko 150 x 150, keskikuvion halkaisija 78 cm. Keskikuvion lisäksi liinassa on 12 pientä kukkakuviota.

I have embroidered a tablecloth, too. The size of this cloth is 150 x 150 cm, the diameter of the figure in the middle is 78 cm. In addition to the figure in the middle there is 12 other little flowery figures in this table cloth.

Joulukuussa 2014 kävin Museokeskus Vapriikissa, jossa oli esillä myös nunavutien elämästä kertovia kirjontatöitä. Niiden innoittamana päätin että teen itsekin jotain samantapaista, noita kirjontalankojakin kun on päässyt kerääntymään luvattoman paljon kuten kuvasta näkyy. Tässä kuvassa on reilusti yli 400 yksikköä (kerää, aloittamatonta vyyhteä) kirjontalankoja. Kaksi kuukautta kesti ennen kuin keksin millaisen kuvan kirjailen, mutta nyt se on keksitty, piirretty kankaalle ja jo aloitettukin. Kuvan koko piirrettynä on 40 x 50 cm ja joka kohta täytetään. Tiedossa vähintään 48000 ketjupistoa.

In December 2014 I visited a museum, where was embroidery works of nunavut's life. There I decided that I shall make something similar myself, too. I have far too much embroidery yarns, as you can see from this picture. Here is over 400 units (balls or unstarted skeins) of embroidery yarns. It took two months to find out what kind of picture shall I embroider, but now I have found it out, drawn it on the fabric and even started embroider. The size of the picture (after drawing it) is 40 x 50 cm, and every part of it will be embroidered, at least 48000 stitches must be done.

Kangaspuilla kudottuja pöytäliinoja
Joskus kamalan kauan sitten, kun olin vielä nuori ja vasta kihlattu, kävin ammatillisen koulun jossa opetettiin kutomaan kangasta kangaspuilla. Paljon siellä kankaita kudottiin, vähän niistä on itselle jäänyt. Tässä kuitenkin muutama pöytäliina malliksi.

Sometimes, a long, long time ago when I was still young and just engaged, I went to a vocational school where I learned myself how to make fabrics with looms. We made a lots of fabrics for different kinds of use, but there is not much left at home. Here is some table cloths for examples.

Ruudullinen pöytäliina, 100 % pellava, 125 x 125 cm. Tällä tyylillä kudottuja pöytäliinoja on tämän lisäksi isommat valkoinen ja tumman vihreä.
