Olohuone pukeutuu farkkuun - My living room is dressed in jeans

Farkku ja farkkukangas ovat aina olleet intohimoni kohteena. Lienenkö nyt mennyt liian pitkälle, kun olohuoneessani (mattoa lukuun ottamatta) kaikki tekstiilit on tehty kierrätetyistä farkuista tai farkkupaidoista. Tekstiilien lisäksi olohuoneessani on farkunsininen puolipanelointi yhdellä seinällä, farkunsininen keinutuolinmatto ja farkunsiniset käytävä- ja kynnysmatot. Kaikki kierrätetty farkkumateriaali Nextiilistä.

Jeans and jeans fabrics have always been my passion (obsession?). I wonder if it is now too much, because all textiles (except a mat) in my living room are made of recycled jeans or jeans shirts. In addition to textiles, there is also jeans blue colored panels on one wall, jeans blue mat on rock chair and jeans blue corridor- and door mats. All of the recycled jeans materials are from Nextiili.

Uusi rahi - A new footstool

Tytär halusi musta-harmaalla farkulla päällystetyn rahin, ja sellaisen hänelle sitten teinkin. Hieman väriä tuli parista viininpunaisesta takataskusta. Farkkumateriaali kierrätystavaraa Nextiilistä. Ihan varmasti en tiedä oliko lopullinen käyttötarkoitus tuo viimeisessä kuvassa näkyvä, mutta koiruuden vahtipaikka rahista lopulta tuli. Murr, vuh-vuh.

My daughter wished to have a footstool covered with black and grey jeans, and I made her wish to come true. I added two wine red jeans back pockets to get a little more color. The material all over is recycled jeans from Nextiili. I am not quite sure if the final purpose of the footstool was the one which can be seen in third picture, but the dog's guard place it became. Grrr, bark-bark.

Vielä yksi rahi - One more footstool

Tähän mennessä olen esitellyt täällä vain omia töitäni, mutta nyt teen poikkeuksen. Töissä Nextiilissä "omien" käsitöiden ohella ohjaan muiden ompeluja ja muita käsitöitä, ja yksi ohjattavistani, Marjam, teki näin hienon rahin. Kyllähän me yhteistyötä tämän kanssa tehtiin niin paljon, että jos minä tämän itse olisin tehnyt, siitä olisi tullut luultavasti ihan saman näköinen. Mutta tämä on Marjamin ensimmäinen rahi ikinä, ei kyllä uskoisi, vai mitä? Ja kaikki 100 % kierrätysmateriaalia. Rahi myynnissä Nextiilin myymälässä, Vihiojantie 30, Tampere.

Until now I have presented only my own works, but this time will be different. At work (Nextiili), in addition to my own works I teach other people to make their works. One of my trainee colleagues, Marjam, made this fine looking footstool. This is her very first footstool, could you believe? We made this in co-operation, and I have to say that if I had done it myself, it would probably look exactly the same. And made of 100 % recycle material, for sale at Nextiili shop.

Uusi rahi ja jättityyny - New footstool and a gigantic cushion

Töissä (Nextiili) pyydettiin tekemään uusi rahi (vanhat kun on kaikki myyty) joka tulisi näytteille Asta-messuille (jotka olivat viikko sitten viikonloppuna). Ajattelin, että tehdään nyt sitten jotain ihan erilaista kuin tähän asti olen tehnyt. En oikein edes välittänyt millainen rahista tulisi, kunhan jotain saan aikaiseksi. Ja millainen siitä tulikaan! Paras ikinä! Harmitti kun en voinut sitä itselleni ostaa, kotona/mökillä/lasteni kodeissa kun ei ole sellaista väritystä johon tuo rahi olisi sopinut. Rahi meni kaupaksi heti kun se saatiin messuilta työpaikalle takaisin.

I was asked at work (Nextiili) to make a new footstool to be shown at Asta-fair (building and living fair, was at weekend a week ago). OK, I thought, let's make something totally different I have ever made, and nobody could guess what kind of a footstool it became! Best ever! The only thing which made me sad about it was that I could not buy it myself, because there was not suitable colors at home / country cottage / my children's homes. This footstool was sold immediately after it was brought back to my workplace.

Messuille haluttiin myös jonkinlainen tyyny. Toteutin siinä samaa periaatetta: tehdään jotain ihan erilaista. Niittejä, hapsureunaa, pitsejä, nappeja, vetoketjuja. Tyynyn koko 70 x 70 cm.
Also some kind of a cushion was wanted to be shown at the fair. I made it with same principle: something totally different. Staples, fringed edges, laces, buttons, zippers. Size of this cushion is 70 x 70 cm.

Solmioista tehtyjä - Made of neckties

Olisikohan solmio uusi farkku? No todennäköisesti ei ainakaan minun kohdallani, minulle farkkukangas on lähestulkoon pakkomielle, odottakaapa vain mitä kaikkea teenkään farkkukankaasta jatkossa! Mutta olen minä solmioistakin tehnyt tuotteita, tällä kertaa esittelen Nextiilissä tekmiäni solmiotuotteita.

Could neckties be new jeans fabrics? Probably not in my case, for me jeans fabrics is almost an obsession, you only wait and see what I'll make of jeans somewhere in future! Anyways, I HAVE made products of old neckties at work in Nextiili.

Pöytäliina. Koko jotain 50 x 100 cm tai jotain sinne päin. Ryppyinenhän tuo näyttää olevan, mutta ompelepa täysvinoa täysvinolle kankaalle, eihän siitä muuta voi tulla kuin ryppyistä, vai voiko?
A tablecloth. Size about 50 x 100 cm or something like that. It looks very wrinkled, but if you sew diagonal into diagonal fabric, you can not get anything else but wrinkled, can you?

Punottuja solmiotyynyjä, tässä vihreä versio. Tyynyn koko 40 x 40 cm + n. 5 cm reunus.

Itse tykkään tästä enemmän kuin tuosta vihreästä versiosta.

Rahi, tai oikeastaan taittopatja jossa solmioista ja farkkukankaasta tehty päällys. "Rahin" koko n. 70 x 70 x 40 cm.
Footstool, or actually a folded mattress, which has been covered with neckties and jeans fabrics. The size of the "footstool" is about 70 x 70 x 40 cm.

Farkkupäällysteisiä raheja - Footstools covered with jeans fabric

Sain töissä uudistettavakseni pari aikansa elänyttä rahia. Farkku kun on lähes pakkomielteeni, joten nuo rahitkin piti päällystää farkkukankaalla, tietysti kierrätetyllä sellaisella.

At work I got two footstools which needed new covers. Because jeans is almost an obsession for me, I had to cover those footstools with jeans, too. And of course all materials are recycled.

Ensimmäinen rahini, korkeus 30 cm, halkaisija 48 cm. Kun sain tämän valmiiksi, päätin ostaa sen itselleni, tykkäsin siitä niin paljon.
My first footstool, height 30 cm, 48 cm diameter. When this was ready, I decided to buy it myself because I loved it so much.

Tämä, edellistä  suurempi rahi myytiin parin päivän kuluttua näytteille asettamisesta.

This footstool, larger than the one above, was sold two days after we put it on sale.
