Kuljetaan pitkin pihamaatani, osa 2 - Let's walk around my courtyard, vol. 2

Kesäkuun pihakävelyssä pääsimme juuri ja juuri pihamaalle asti, näimme entisen leikkimökin, nykyisen puutarhatyökaluvajan. Tällä kertaa kierrämme taloa.

In June we arrived into my courtyard and saw my mail box, fence and former playhouse. This time we'll walk around the house.

Talon eteläseinustalla punottua pajuaitaa, luonnonkiviä, itse tehtyjä (lehtilaatta, näitä on tontilla enemmänkin) sekä kierrätettyjä sementtilaattoja.
The south side of the house has woven fence made of willow, natural stones, self made (leaf tile, these I have much more in my courtyard) and recycled concrete tiles.

Kalalangasta punomani "hämähäkinverkko" (yllä olevassa kuvassa taka-alalla), maalattu valkoisella maalilla säänkestäväksi.
"Spider net" made of hard cotton yarn (can be seen in picture above), painted weather proof with white paint.

Polku kiertää kellarin portaat (syvennys kuvan keskellä), idän puolen seinusta.
The path goes around the stairs into my cellar (in the middle of the picture), this is the east wall.

Pohjoisseinustalla on kiveä enemmänkin.
The north side of the house has so much small stones.

When you arrive my place, at first you see my mailbox.

Sitten huomio kiinnittynee "kuusiaitaani" (kuusen oksista punottu ristikko pihatien reunalla). 
The next thing you may notice is my cross "fence" made of fir branches.

Wanhoja juttuja pihamaalta - Old stuff from my courtyard

Kun tekee kaiken pihamaalla täysin mutu-tuntumalta, pakostikin tulee joskus tehtyä suttua ja sekundaa. Tai sitten ei vain ymmärrä ettei joko näin tai noin voi oikeasti tehdä tai ettei tämä ja tuo voi mitenkään kestää paria vuotta kauempaa. Eipä ainakaan pääse työt loppumaan.

If you do everything on as-you-feel -base, you'll be sometimes in a situation you have done things wrong. Or you just do not understand, that something can not be done that way you plan to, or things simply do not last longer than a couple of years. This way you'll have always something to do.

Tämän kaltaista punottua pajuaitaa minulla on tällä hetkellä yhteensä n. 26 metrin matkalla raja-aitana, korkeutta aidalla on 120 cm. Tuo aita on tehty jo kahdesti, paju kun ei kestä ikuisesti ulko-olosuhteissa. Kesti vain muutaman päivän kun jouduin jo uusimaan kuvissa näkyvien koristeiden kiinnitykset, oravat uteliaisuuttaan kävivät kalvamassa pellavanyörit poikki ja maistelemassa jokaista puuhelmeä. Oli pakko vaihtaa nyörit rautalankaan niin koristeet saivat olla rauhassa. Osan aidasta olen uudistanut viime vuonna, n. 15 metrin osuus kaipaisi kipeästi uusimista, mutta noiden paju"kuteiden" hankkimisessa on niin mahdottoman kova työ...

I have this kind of woven fence made of willow etc., all together 26 meters, and it is 120 cm high. I have made all this fence already two times, because willow does not last outside forever. The decorations lasted only a couple of days before curious squirrels cut the linen strings and tasted every wooden pearl. I changed strings into iron wire, and decorations were left alone. One part of the fence I re-made last year, and about 15 meters needs instant re-making, but getting enough willow means a LOT of work...

Oli minulla kauan sitten toisenlaistakin aitaa, tämä alla esitelty kesti vain pari vuotta. Tein aidan koivun oksista pellavanarulla sitoen, ja koivu kestää ulko-olosuhteissa vielä huonommin kuin paju.
I had an other kind of fence for a long time ago, this one (below) lasted only two years. This one was made of dry birch tree branches, and it is not very good material for projects kept outside year around.

Verhot on tehty pellavanyöristä ja puuhelmistä, oravilla oli taas puuhaa niiden testaamisessa.
Curtains were made of linen string and wooden pearls, squirrels tested this, too.

Eräs pieni poika seisoi pitkään aidan vieressä ihailemassa "hämähäkinseittiä".
A little boy stood for a long time at the fence admiring the "spider net".

Oli minulla kerran ulko-olohuoneessani verhotkin, tein ne kateharsosta. Myyjä kyllä sanoi että harso on kakkoslaatua, mutta kuka siitä nyt välittäisi?
Once I had curtains in my outdoor living room, I made them of gauze (used in garden). The sales person told that it is second class quality, but who cares?

Aijjaa, olisi pitänyt välittää. Kuukausi aurinkoa, sadetta ja tuulta ja verhoni on entinen.
Oh, I should have cared. One month of sun, rain and wind, and I have an ex-curtain.

Katsaus pihamaalleni - osa 3 / Let's see my courtyard - vol. 3

ULKO-OLOHUONEENI - MY OUTDOOR LIVING ROOM

Ajatus ulko-olohuoneesta syntyi kun ostin 9 pihalaattaa (koko 60 x 60 cm). Niillä ei kovinkaan isoa aluetta kata, mutta kun laattoja on käytössä 37, niin niillä jo tekee aika kivan kokoisen "olohuoneen". Laatat on ostettu jo vuosia sitten, mutta jos nyt ne ostaisin, ne maksaisivat n. 220 euroa.

I got the idea of outdoor living room, when I bought 9 wooden tiles (size 60 x 60 cm) into my courtyard. With those 9 tiles you can not cover very much, but with 37 tiles you can get a pretty nice size of "living room". The tiles have been bought years ago, but if I bought them now, I had to pay about 220 euros.

"Etuseinässä" on käytetty heinäseipäitä ja sireenin runkoja ja oksia, kiinnitetty toisiinsa nippusiteillä. Alkuun seipäiden välissä oli pajukaaret, mutta ne eivät säiden vaihteluja kestäneet. Sireeni on paljon kestävämpää.
The "front wall" is made of hay sticks and trunks and branches of lilacs, connected with cable ties. Originally there was curves made of willow between the sticks, but the change of weather made them (curves) broke. Lilac is much more lasting.

Open living room, no roof, no walls.

Tuolit on ostettu kierrätyskeskuksesta yhteensä 5 eurolla, kaikki muut kalusteet ovat omia tai talon mukana tulleita. Pöytälevyn olen uusinut, samoin keinun istuimen ja selkänojan (joka on vanhan sänkymme pääty). Kukkapylväs on yli 30 vuotta sitten lahjaksi saatu, alemmassa kuvassa näkyvä penkki on talon mukana tullut. Matot olen itse kutonut varmaan 20 vuotta sitten. Marmorinen shakkilauta ostettu kierrätyskeskuksesta 2 eurolla.

Chairs are bought from recycle center (5 euros together), all other furniture are own or came with the house. I covered the table and the swing seat and back (which is the end of our old bed). The flower stand we got over 30 years ago, the bench in picture below came with the house. The mats have I woven myself about 20 years ago. The chess board is bought from recycle center with 2 euros.

"Kattokruunu" on vanha valaisimemme, sen käytöstä jouduttiin luopumaan kun muoviosat alkoivat murtua. Poistin kaikki sähköjohdot ja irtoavat muoviosat ja näin saimme ainakin omasta mielestäni hienon koristeen ulko-olohuoneeseemme. Kaikki kiinnitykset on tehty nippusiteillä.
"The lamp" is our old one, we had to take it off because the plastic parts broke. I took off all electric wires and remove able plastic parts and so we got (at least in my opinion) a fine decoration into our outdoor living room. All of the fastening has been done with cable ties.

Tästä edellisessäkin päivityksessä näkyvästä kivikasasta lupasin tällä päivityskerralla kertoa. Kuulkaa siis:

Näin vuosia sitten lehdessä kuvan jonkun puutarhasta, jossa oli luonnonkivistä ladottu polku. Päätin heti että minulle myös! Ja koska tonttimme on osa vanhaa sorakuoppaa, materiaaliahan löytyi omaltakin tontilta ainakin alkuun pääsemiseksi. Mutta kun omat kivet alkoivat käydä vähiin ja nälkä kasvoi syödessä, oli ihan pakko tilata PALJON lisää kiviä. Siispä eräänä päivänä kesällä 2002 talon kokoinen kuorma-auto sompaili  pihaan ja romautti 10 kuutiomertiä kiviä maahan. Tässä vaiheessa vanhimman tyttäreni kommentti oli: "Äiti, sä olet kyllä ihan hullu, menet ja tilaat autolastillisen kiviä SORAKUOPPAAN!"

Koska kiviä tarvitiin aika laajalla alueella, kysyin puolisoltani josko hän muutaman kottikärryllisen avukseni kuljettaisi lähemmäs kohdealueita. Tätä aihepiiriä ei muistaakseni sisällytetty alkuperäiseen sopimukseemme ettei puolisoni tarvitse pihatöihin osallistua, mutta kysymykseeni vastattiin: "Sinun kivet, sinä tilasit, sinä siirrät." Mitäpäs tuohon vastaisi, minä siis siirsin, mutta en sitten tämän jälkeen kyllä keneltäkään kysynyt mitä pihalla saisin tehdä tai mitä muut haluaisivat. Lopputulos kuitenkin koko perhettä miellyttää.

In my previous update I promised to tell more about these stones. Here you are:

Years ago I saw in a magazine a picture of someone's garden, where was a path made of natural stones. I decided that I have to have one, too. And because our place is part of an old gravel pit, I found enough material here to get started. But my own stones were not enough, so I had to order MUCH more. So one summer day in year 2002 a truck as large as a house, drove into our courtyard and brought me 10 cube meters of stones. And that same moment my daughter said: "Mother, you must be totally out of your mind, you order a truck bed full of stones into A GRAVEL PIT!"

Because I needed stones almost all over this place, I asked my husband if he could help me in moving stones in places they were needed. I do not remember if stones were included into the deal I made with my husband, that he does not have to work in the garden, but he answered my question: " Your stones, you ordered, you move them!" What could I answer? I moved the stones, but never asked anyone what could I do or what others would like to have in the courtyard. Everybody likes the result anyway, I believe.

KÄSITYÖTÄ SE ON TÄMÄKIN - THIS IS CRAFT, TOO

Kun ostimme tämän paikan 1993, teimme puolisoni kanssa sopimuksen ettei hänen tarvitse osallistua puutarhatöihin. Hyvin tämä sopimus on pitänytkin, itse olen koko puutarhan tehnyt ja hoitanut, ihan pelkällä nais-lihasvoimalla, täysin ilman mitään koneita. Koko tontilta löytyy vajaat 10 suurta kiveä joiden siirtämisessä olen tarvinnut puolisoni apua, mutta lihasvoimin nämäkin on siirretty. Ihan täysin kaiken muun olen ihan itse tehnyt ja siirtänyt.

Tonttimme on vanhaa sorakuoppaa, ja sen näki selvästi vielä 10 vuotta ostohetken jälkeenkin. Tylsä piha, vain tasaista sepeliä ja huonokuntoista ruohikkoa. Lapsille tuo piha oli toki kiva, pyörällä saattoi ajella tonttia ympäri ja pihalla oli hyvä pelata. Aloitin tontin muokkauksen vasta v. 2000, eikä kaikkea suunniteltua ole vieläkään tehty.

When we bought this place in 1993, I made a deal with my husband, that he does not have to take part in working in the garden. This deal has been true through all these years, I have made and taken care of the whole garden, only with female muscle force, totally without any machines. There is less than 10 stones in my courtyard, which I had to move with help of my husband, but only with human muscles those stones have been moved. But totally everything else is done and moved by me only.

Our place is a very old gravel pit, and it could be seen even 10 years after we had bought this place. Boring courtyard, only gravel and some grass areas. For children this yard was very good, they could bike all over our area and there was plenty of room for playing football, badminton etc. I started changing this place in year 2000, and there is still work to be done.

Näkymä suurinpiirtein samalta kohdalta 10 vuotta myöhemmin, ei vieläkään paljoa ole muuttunut. Tuon kivikasan (10 kuutiometriä!) tarina ehkä seuraavassa päivityksessä.

Näkymä nykyään samasta kohdasta kuin edellinen kuva. Kivikasa on poistunut, paljon enemmän vihreää. Tämä ei tosin vielä kerro yhtään mitään totaalisesti muuttuneesta pihastani.
The view today from the same place as previous picture. The stones are gone, lots of green instead. This picture does not yet tell anything about my totally changed courtyard.

Ja lopuksi (tällä kerralla) näkymä keittiön ikkunasta tänään. Ei sepeliä, paaaljon vihreää. Ja paaaljon kiviä ja yksityiskohtia, joista lisää myöhemmissä päivityksissä. Jo nyt voin kertoa että ainakin omasta mielestäni pihamaani on nykyään melkein kuin jostain sadusta, niin paljon se on alkuperäisestä muuttunut.
And finally (for this time), the view today from my kitchen window. No gravel, LOTS of green. And LOTS of stones and details, of which I'll tell in next updates. Already now I can tell that at least in my opinion my (our?) courtyard is almost like from some fairy tale, it has changed so much from the beginning.
